Great Relationships with your Kids
Most of us become parents long before we have stopped being children. - Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic's Notebook, 1966
We yearn to reproduce. To create little ‘mini me’s’ that we can dress up, take to the park and have them love us unconditionally forever. Of course, we will never let our children do ‘that’. And our children will certainly not behave like the ones we saw in the supermarket/on holiday/on the train/in the cafĂ©/ and any where else small people can be found. Yeah right!
So here they are and here you are without a manual on how to operate your specific offspring (who obviously come from an entirely different sub-continent to everyone else’s). Its all going pear shaped and you are expected to morph into ‘super parent’ on the spot. One day you hear your mother’s or father’s voice coming out of your own mouth and you realise its all down hill from here.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Well at least not all the time. Effective Parenting is interestingly much more about you than it is about your kids. A great relationship with your kids is about knowing how to have a great relationship with yourself as a parent. We worry so much about what we want our children to do, but its much more about what you do and how you behave that will have the greatest influence on who they become when they grow up. Understanding how to be your kids ‘best parent ever’ is a marathon not a sprint. Each year brings new, unimagined challenges (just in case you were worrying that it may get boring). How you handle the ups and downs of parenting will shape your character as much as theirs.
Having personally graduated (mine are now 20 and 23) and formally trained in San Diego I can offer you some cutting edge parenting skills that can simply transform your relationship with your children whatever their age. You’ll learn the road blocks to communicating with your kids, you’ll discover how to listen so they will talk and talk so they will listen. I can show you how to teach your children self discipline and create family ‘rules’ that work. It may be that you are divorcing. Parenting during and after divorce is a whole new ball game. I can help you handle it with understanding and ease, as well as maintaining a great working relationship with your ex.
From having your own kids to adoption and single parenting; same sex parenting or caring for your grandkids, my simple and effective parenting programme is an a-z of building a great relationship with those wonderful people in your life who make your heart feel like its beating out side your body.
